Let's face it; beauty takes work. As much as we'd all like to wake up in the morning and look like a super model, it doesn't work like that. Even super models have bad days. One of the hardest parts of the face to manage are the eyes. Dark circles, puffy eyes, crow's feet, and thinning lashes are all ongoing issues that we must deal with every morning. Luckily for you, Dr. Dayan offers solutions for every issue. As well, we have some at-home tips that can help you reduce the sight of some of the more daily issues.
Dark Circles
Dark circles under the eyes are a result of hollowing from lack of volume underneath and around the eye. The dark comes from a hollow shadowing created by depth. Two great solutions to the dark circles under your eyes are Restylane and Radiesse, which can both improve under the eye hollowing. Restylane, made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally molecule that organically occurs to help retain moisture in the skin. Radiesse is a dermal filler which helps improve sunken under eye circles. Both provide results guaranteed to last longer than any over the counter eye cream or home remedy.
Radiesse is an injectable filler that also stimulates collagen growth, providing the initial plumping along with extended correction for one to two years as new tissue regenerates. Restylane uses hyaluronic acid to attract water, which it binds with to create plumper areas of skin. Results can last up to 8 months to a year.
Puffy Eyes and Bags
Dark circles are often created by a hollowing of the tissue around the eye while Puffy Eyes are a result of water and fluid build up. Puffy eyes are often corrected by cosmetic surgery, and they are affected by daily habits more than age. Puffy eyes can often be confused with sagging or drooping under eye skin (bags), but we'll get to that in a moment. Puffy eyes are usually a result of a build-up of edema from crying or a change of hormones, nasal congestion, abnormal salt intake, stress, and sleep deprivation.
As you can see by the causes, puffy eyes can be prevented by proper lifestyle choices. Exercising regularly, getting enough sleep with your head elevated, eating right and reducing sodium intake are all ways to prevent puffy eyes. If you do happen to have puffy eyes in the morning, a cold towel placed over the eyes can usually act as a temporary fix. For more remedies to prevent puffy eyes refer to our larger blog post on them.
As we mentioned, puffy eyes can often be confused for sagging under eye skin, often called "bags", that no home remedy can cure. These are a sign of age. The collagen and tissue in your face has depreciated too the point that the skin cannot stay tight against the face. For this, we suggest a cosmetic procedure known as a blepharoplasty, which removes excess fat and skin below the eye. The procedure's results showcase younger looking eyes and an elimination of a fatigued and tired look common with aging skin.
Crows Feet
Another trouble that can come around the eyes are the dreaded Crows Feet: thin wrinkles that form at the corners of the eyes and extend outward. These small wrinkles, though harmless, can make a person's face look tired and aged. For these we recommend a Botox procedure. The "cleaning up," effect it takes on the face allows for a younger, fresher look. Botox is an inhibitor of neuromuscular activity. It blocks communication between the nerve fiber and the muscle, which prevents contraction of the muscles and relaxes them. When this happens, the areas around the eye relax as well.
Thinning Lashes
Just like balding of the head, eyelashes can grow less as you grow older and fall out quicker resulting in thinner looking lashes. Other than fake eyelashes or eyelash enhancers, which must be used everyday to keep a consistent look, Latisse, a prescription enhancer is available. Latisse offers a solution to thinning eyelashes. It works by applying one drop of the solution to the upper eyelash line every night before bed. Within two months, you will discover thicker and longer eyelashes start to grow. Studies show that Latisse is able to lengthen eyelashes by 25%, increase thickness by 106%, and darken the hair by 18%. All great news if you're worried about thinning lashes. Of course, no matter what the issues you have with your eyes are, it's always best to consult your physician before committing to anything. The team at Impressions Face + Body is excited to help you look as good as you feel and these procedures can be your first step to happiness.
